How payouts work

In Contractor Management, all financial operations run through the Airwallex payment infrastructure. The client pays invoices manually – there’s no automatic payment.

The payment journey: from contract to payout

  • Configuring payouts in the contract
When you create a contract, you specify the amount, currency, payment frequency, and date of the first payment. Based on this data, the Planner generates payout tasks.

  • Automatic invoice generation
Invoices are created automatically on the dates set in the Planner. Neither the client nor the contractor can create an invoice manually. The amounts come from the contract settings.

  • Payment by the client
Once an invoice is generated, it appears in the Invoices section with the Ready to pay status. Select the invoices to pay, check the available balance for each currency, and confirm the payment with the Confirm & pay button.

  • Delivery of funds to the contractor
Once you confirm, the funds are deducted from your balance in the Wallet section of your Mellow account and sent to the contractor through Airwallex.
The contractor receives the money on the payment method (beneficiary) they added during onboarding.

Important! For an invoice payment to go through, the contractor must have at least one payment method added for receiving funds.

The payment method is added separately for each client, even when the account or card details are the same – Airwallex verifies the data based on the client company’s country.

Fees and charges

With each payment, in addition to the invoice amount itself (the payment to the contractor), additional fees may be withheld, depending on the contractor’s country.

All fees appear on the payment screen in the Payment summary block before confirmation. Invoices from Mellow (for subscription, transfers, and conversion) are available in the From Mellow tab of the Invoices section.
