Recommendations for successful account verification

Updated this week

Account verification is the process of verifying your identity and your address. To verify your identity and address, you need to upload certain documents. To learn about the requirements for such documents, see Verification rules. In this article we have our recommendations for the freelancers from Kenya.

Please note:

  • You need to take a photo of the original printed versions of your documents, and then upload them in JPG, JPEG, or PNG format.

  • All four corners of the document must be visible in the photo.

  • Photo should not be cropped or edited.

  • Electronic documents need to be uploaded in their original format (PDF), screenshots are not accepted.

Verifying your identity

For the first verification step you can upload one of the documents:

  • East African Passport of Kenya;

  • Travel Passport;

  • National ID Card;

  • Driver's license;

  • Residence permit.

Verifying your residential address

To confirm your address, the document must contain your full name, address, and be issued within the last 6 months or have a valid expiry date. We successfully accept following documents:

Page with address in a passport

  • Take a photo of your passport, so that all 4 corners of the documents are seen, as well as the information in the passport;

  • Please note that the document must be valid, so it can be accepted;

  • If the system doesn't automatically accept the document, please let us know.

Documents from Kenya Revenue Authority

  • The types of documents, that are accepted, are PIN certificate, e-Return Acknowledgment Receipt and Taх Compliance Certificate;

  • Please note that the document must contain your full name, address, and be issued within the last 6 months. If it's issued earlier, you can create a new document;

  • Upload the document in PDF format, as the screenshots are not accepted.

Documents issued by a Kenyan bank

  • Examples of documents: account statement, account opening agreement, bank certificate, bank reference, etc;

  • If a regular bank statement does not mention your name or residential address, request one from your bank that specifically includes your last name, first name, and residential address;

  • Documents from the following banks have worked well previously: Co-operative Bank of Kenya, Equity Bank, I&M Bank, Standard Chartered Bank. But you can upload a document from any other bank as long as it contains all the needed information;

  • Please note, that the document must be uploaded as a photo of a paper document or original document in PDF format. Screenshot of the document won't be accepted.

Residential lease agreement

  • The agreement must be written in printed text or clear handwritten text;

  • You need to upload photos of the pages with your full name, address, validity period and signs of both sides. If it's an electronic agreement, upload it as a PDF file and contact Support via chat so we check it manually;

  • If the agreement is valid, but was signed more than 6 months ago, contact Support via chat so we check it manually.

Utility bill or service contract

  • Examples of documents: utility bill, cable Internet bill, television bill, landline or mobile phone bill, contract for the provision of any of the listed services;

  • The document must contain your name, address, the logo of the organisation;

  • The document itself must be issued within the last 6 months.
