Wallet: balance, top-up, and currency conversion

Your company’s balance is a virtual account opened with Airwallex (Connected Account).

The Wallet section shows your current balances in different currencies, the full list of currencies available in Contractor Management, and the history of all incoming and outgoing transactions and conversions. You can also top up your wallet balance here.

If your country is in the EU zone, the main account currency will be euros; otherwise, it’ll be US dollars.

This section has three tabs: Overview (which appears once company verification is complete), Conversions, and Deposits.

Topping up your company balance

To top up your Mellow account balance, select Add funds.

All the details for topping up the wallet are listed under the Add funds button.

Here you can view and copy the account’s bank details for topping up the balance.

The Account capabilities subsection shows approximate crediting times for different payment methods.

Overview

This is the main wallet subsection. It shows your current balance, available currencies, and transaction history. The history shows the transaction type and ID: payout for a payment to a contractor, conversion for a currency conversion, and charge for a Mellow fee. You’ll also see the status, date, and amount of each transaction.

Select the three dots to the right of a transaction (⋮) to open the details: amount, date, and time.

The Show all button displays the account’s main currency along with the full list of currencies you can pay contractors in.

Currency conversion

By default, payment is sent to the contractor in your account’s main currency, and the conversion into their currency happens on the recipient bank’s side once the funds are credited. The rate in that case is set by the contractor’s bank.

If you want to make sure the contractor receives an exact amount in their own currency, convert the funds in your account ahead of time. The money will then be sent to the contractor in their local currency, and their bank won’t convert anything.

The internal conversion rate is set by our payment partner, and you’ll see it the moment you make the conversion.

Select Edit balances to open the full list of currencies available in Contractor Management. In the modal window, use the search to add the currencies you need.

To convert currency within the wallet, select Convert in the upper right corner – a modal window will open.

In the first field, choose the currency and enter the amount to convert; in the second, choose the currency you want to receive. The rate shown is the current one at that moment.

Once you select Next, the rate is locked in and can’t be changed. To confirm the conversion, select Confirm.

After a successful conversion, a message will appear with the rate and the received currency.

Conversions

This subsection holds the history of all conversions, with detailed information for each: date, status, rate, source and target currencies, and a brief reference.

Deposits

This subsection holds a detailed history of deposits – that is, balance top-ups for paying contractors. For each deposit, you’ll see the ID, type (for example, Bank transfer), status, creation date, and amount.

Select the three vertical dots on the right of any row to open the transaction details, where you can also view or download documents from Airwallex.
